Late Roman Legionaries (2): Lorica Squamata

Picked up a box for a late Roman project and was impressed by the crisp detail on the scale plates of the lorica squamata. The plastic is sturdy enough for painting and they fit together without much fuss.

The scale armor bodies are a real step up from the older kits—each torso comes with clean, distinct rows that don’t need much cleanup before painting. I’ve already got two units based and primed, and the late-Roman poses actually look like they’re holding a shield wall, not just standing around.

The detailing on the lorica squamata armor is crisp and period-accurate, and the plastic takes paint really well without losing the fine scale texture. I’ve built a lot of late Roman units and these figures finally give the Constantine-era reforms the representation they deserve.
